Although rooted in the jazz of the 1960s, pianist/keyboardist George Duke has made numerous subsequent forays into rock, R&B and most notably funk. He has performed with a legion of prominent musicians including Al Jarreau, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Jean Luc-Ponty, Frank Zappa, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Clarke and more.
This diverse odyssey has made for a complex and richly layered sound in everything Duke sets his hand to. A careful balance of rhythmic energy and simmering balladry, 'Dukey Treats' recalls the golden age of funk and soul, while at the same time maintaining a fresh sound and addressing issues that are relevant to the global culture of the 21st century. It features an all-star line-up including bassist Christian McBride, percussionist Sheila E, trumpeter Michael "Patches" Stewart, guitarist Wah Wah Watson, drummer Leon "Ndugu" Chancler and Vinnie Colaiuta, vocalists Jonathan Butler, Teena Marie and Rachelle Ferrell and many more.
